Letter Tracing Worksheets A to Z
Updated October 2026 · 26 free printables
One free printable tracing page for every letter of the alphabet. Each page shows a big uppercase and lowercase letter with numbered green start dots and red arrows for the stroke order, then four rows on handwriting lines: a model letter, dashed letters to trace and letters that fade to start dots only, so kids finish by writing on their own.
Every letter also has its own picture to color with a word to trace: apple, ball, cat, duck, elephant and so on up to zebra. The letters use the simple ball-and-stick manuscript style taught in most US preschools and kindergartens.

Tips for coloring Letter Tracing Worksheets A to Z
- Say the letter name and its sound out loud each time your child traces it: "B, buh, ball".
- Trace the big letter with a finger first, then a crayon, then a pencil, so the movement is learned before neatness counts.
- Praise good starts: if the pencil begins on the green dot and follows the arrow, the letter is right even if it wobbles.

Frequently asked questions
What age are letter tracing worksheets for?
Most children are ready around age 4 (pre-K), once they can hold a crayon and trace a straight line. Kindergarteners use the same pages to tidy up letter size and stroke order.
Which handwriting style do the letters use?
Simple ball-and-stick manuscript: straight lines and round circles, like the print style most US schools teach first. Lowercase letters sit on the red baseline, tall letters reach the top line and g, j, p, q and y hang below.
What do the numbers and arrows mean?
Green dot 1 shows where to put the pencil first, and the red arrow shows which way to go. Dot 2 is the next stroke. Learning the right start point early makes writing faster and neater later.
In what order should we do the letters?
A to Z is fine, but many teachers start with the letters in the child's name, or with easy straight-line letters (L, T, I, F, E, H) before curved ones (C, O, S, G).
