Updated October 2026 · 23 free printables
One tracing page for every number from 0 to 20, plus two review pages for 1 to 10 and 11 to 20. Each page has a big dashed numeral with numbered green dots and arrows that show the stroke order, four rows on primary handwriting lines that go from dark dashes to light dashes, then dots, then only the start dots, a count and color box and the number word to trace.
Numbers 0 to 10 are a good fit for pre-K; 11 to 20 match the kindergarten goal of writing every number up to 20. The review pages pair each numeral with its word and a row of dots to count.

Tips for number tracing worksheets 0 to 20
- Say the strokes out loud while tracing, like "across and down" for 7 or "down, across, down" for 4.
- Always start at the green dot; starting in the right place stops numbers from coming out backwards.
- For the count and color box, have your child touch each picture once while counting out loud.
Fun math facts
- Writing the numbers 0 to 20 is a kindergarten goal in the Common Core math standards (K.CC.3).
- Teen numbers are tricky because we say the ones first (fourteen) but write the tens first (14).
- The number words eleven and twelve come from old Germanic words meaning "one left" and "two left" after counting to ten.
Fun ways to use your printables
- Make a number book: staple the pages for 1 to 10 together and add a drawing for each number.
- Hide number cards around the room; your child finds one and traces that number's page.
- Write the day's number in chalk on the sidewalk, big enough to walk along its strokes.

Frequently asked questions
In what order should kids learn to write numbers?
Most children start with 1, 0 and 7, which have simple strokes, then move on to 4, 2, 3 and 5. The curvy 6, 8 and 9 usually come last. Going in number order also works well if you do one number a day.
My child writes some numbers backwards. Is that normal?
Yes. Mirror-image 3s, 7s and 9s are very common until about age 7. The arrows and start dots help, and so does saying the strokes out loud, like "across and down" for 7.
Why are the teen numbers tricky?
In fourteen we hear the 4 first but write the 1 first. Pointing out that every teen number starts with a 1 (one ten) helps a lot.
How is this different from the Number Worksheets?
These pages focus on writing: more tracing rows on handwriting lines, stroke order and the number word. The Number Worksheets add ten frames, missing numbers and an answer key.
