Tips for coloring Spot the Difference Printables
- Scan in a pattern: compare the top left corner of both pictures, then move across and down, so no part gets skipped.
- Check the sky and the edges too; changes often hide away from the main character.
- Say what you see out loud (three candles, two candles) to catch changes in numbers.
Fun facts about Spot the Difference Printables
- Comparing two pictures trains visual discrimination, the same skill kids use to tell b from d and 6 from 9.
- Picture puzzles that ask readers to find the differences have run in newspapers and kids' magazines for over 100 years.
- Your eyes jump between the two pictures several times per second while you search; each jump is called a saccade.
Fun ways to use your printables
- Race a friend or a parent with two copies of the same page and a timer.
- Color the top picture first, then try to color the bottom one to match, leaving the differences a new color.
- Invite kids to draw one more change of their own into the bottom picture and challenge someone else to find it.

Frequently asked questions
How do you play spot the difference?
Compare the top picture with the bottom one, part by part. Whenever something is missing, added, moved or changed in the bottom picture, circle it and tick one of the circles at the bottom of the page until all are found.
Which level should my child start with?
Ages 3 to 5 do best with the easy pages, where the changes are whole objects like a missing sun or an extra chick. Grades 1 and 2 can try medium pages; the hard pages with 10 small changes are a good challenge for 8-year-olds and up, and for grown-ups too.
Where are the answers?
Page 2 of every PDF is the answer key: the bottom picture with each difference circled in red and numbered, plus a short list that says what changed. Print only page 1 if you want to keep the answers for checking.
Are these printables free for classroom use?
Yes. Download and print as many copies as you need for home, homeschool, early finishers, sub plans or a classroom puzzle center.
