Frequently asked questions
When should kids learn to skip count?
Counting by 10s starts in kindergarten, by 2s, 5s and 10s in first grade, and by 3s, 4s, 25s and 100s in second grade.
Why do some rows not start at 0?
Starting at 36 and counting by 10s (36, 46, 56) teaches that only the tens digit changes, which is a big place value idea.
How do I help with counting backwards?
Read the row out loud starting from the first number. Saying the numbers helps kids hear the pattern.
