Tips for coloring Tulip
- Shade each cup-shaped bloom darker at the base and lighter toward the pointed tips, so the petals seem to curve inward.
- Tulip leaves are long and often a gray-blue green, so try a cooler green for the leaves than for the stems.
- Make a striped or flamed tulip by adding thin streaks of red or purple over a yellow or white base color.
Fun facts about Tulip
- Tulips grow from bulbs that are planted in the fall and need a long, cold winter underground before they can bloom in spring.
- Wild tulips first grew in the mountains of Central Asia, long before they became the famous flower of the Netherlands.
- During the 1630s, rare tulip bulbs became so fashionable in the Dutch Republic that some sold for many times a worker's yearly wage.
Fun ways to use your printables
- Plant a few tulip bulbs together in the fall and keep a colored tulip page as a reminder of what will pop up in spring.
- Color a long row of tulips in rainbow order and hang it as a spring border above a window or a classroom board.
- Fold a sheet of paper into a card, glue a colored tulip on the front and give it for Easter or Mother's Day.
