About this worksheet
An 8 by 8 pixel cupcake with pink frosting, sprinkles, a cherry and a striped wrapper. More squares and colors than the kindergarten pages, so kids learn to keep their place row by row. The answer key is on page 2. First graders can do it on their own once they know the strategy at the top of the page.
Tips for using it
- Copy one square at a time and check where each line enters and leaves the square before you draw.
- Draw lightly in pencil first; when the whole picture is in place, trace over it and color it.
- Turn the example picture upside down for a challenge: it stops your brain from guessing and makes you copy what you really see.
Printing tips
Download the PDF and print at 100% (or “fit to page” on A4). Page 1 is the worksheet and page 2 is the answer key with the answers in red; print just page 1 if you want to keep the answers for checking. The PNG shows page 1 only. Free for personal, family and classroom use.
