Shape Drawing Prompts: One Shape, Five Ways

Updated October 2026 · 8 free printables

One shape, five drawings: each page repeats a single shape six times. The first one is already turned into something (a circle into a sun, a square into a gift box, a half circle into a turtle) and the other five are for the child to transform into five different things. Eight pages: circle, square, triangle, oval, rectangle, half circle, zigzag and wavy line.

A writing line under each box asks what it became. It is a favorite warm-up for creative thinking, and a great take-turns game on the whiteboard: draw the shape five times and alternate.

Frequently asked questions

What can a circle turn into?

A sun, a clock, a pizza, a wheel, a cookie, a face, a ball, a planet, a donut... Each page lists a few ideas in its description, but the best answers are the ones kids invent.

Why is the first box done already?

The example shows the trick: keep the shape and add a few lines around or inside it. After seeing one, most kids need no further explanation.

How is this different from a coloring page?

There is nothing to color at first: the child makes the picture. Coloring comes after, if they like.

What age is it for?

Circle, square and triangle pages suit ages 3 and up. The zigzag and wavy line pages are a fun challenge for 6 and up, and for grown-ups.
