On this sheet
Have you ever thought about where your food comes from? Much of it starts on a farm. Farmers are community helpers who grow the food we eat. Some farmers grow crops like corn, wheat, apples and carrots. They plant seeds in the spring, water the plants and pull weeds. Tractors help them plow the fields and bring in the crops. Other farmers raise animals. Dairy cows give milk, which can be made into cheese, butter and yogurt. Chickens lay eggs. Farm animals need care every single day, even on holidays.
Tips for using it
- Before reading, look at the picture and the title together and guess what the passage will be about.
- Ask your child to underline the sentence in the passage that proves each answer.
- Talk about the story afterwards: what was the problem, how was it solved, and what would your child have done?
