Every page is in full color with friendly pictures, and almost every page has an answer key on page 2.
Words are printed in the simple ball-and-stick letters children learn to write, with the same 4-line handwriting paper as our tracing pages, so reading and writing practice go together. Pick a section below or print a whole set as one PDF.

- Say the sound, not the letter name, when you point to a letter: /m/ instead of em.
- Read every finished worksheet out loud together; the reading matters more than the pencil work.

Frequently asked questions
What order should I teach phonics in?
Start with letter sounds and beginning sounds, then blend short CVC words (cat, sun, pig). Word families and short vowel pages come next, then digraphs (sh, ch, th, wh, ck) and blends. Rhyming can run alongside from preschool on.
What age are these phonics worksheets for?
The pages are labeled Pre-K, Kindergarten, Grade 1 and Grade 2. Most four-year-olds can do the rhyming and beginning sounds coloring pages; CVC and word family pages fit kindergarten; digraphs and harder word ladders suit first and second grade.
How long should a phonics session be?
Ten to fifteen minutes a day is plenty for young children. One worksheet, read out loud together, works better than a stack of pages done in silence.
Do the worksheets have answer keys?
Yes, every page with right and wrong answers has an answer key on page 2 of the PDF. Open-ended pages, like the CVC word list and the read-and-draw page, have none.
