About this worksheet
Fifteen labeled pictures (hat, pen, pig, fox, cup and more) to sort by vowel sound. Kids read each word and write it in the short a, e, i, o or u box. Three words belong in each box; the key shows the finished sort. It matches first grade reading goals, roughly ages 6 to 7.
Tips for using it
- Use one picture word per vowel as an anchor: apple, egg, igloo, octopus, umbrella.
- Ask your child to watch your mouth: short a opens wide, short o makes a round mouth.
- Color the vowel letters red when writing words so they stand out.
Printing tips
Download the PDF and print at 100% (or “fit to page” on A4). Page 1 is the worksheet and page 2 is the answer key with the answers in red; print just page 1 if you want to keep the answers for checking. The PNG shows page 1 only. Free for personal, family and classroom use.
