About this worksheet
Fifteen CVC pictures (bat, pin, sun, web, mop, jam and more), each with the five vowels a, e, i, o and u underneath in color. Kids say the word, listen for the middle sound and circle its vowel. First graders can read it on their own and ask for help only with the trickier words.
Tips for using it
- Use one picture word per vowel as an anchor: apple, egg, igloo, octopus, umbrella.
- Ask your child to watch your mouth: short a opens wide, short o makes a round mouth.
- Color the vowel letters red when writing words so they stand out.
Printing tips
Download the PDF and print at 100% (or “fit to page” on A4). Page 1 is the worksheet and page 2 is the answer key with the answers in red; print just page 1 if you want to keep the answers for checking. The PNG shows page 1 only. Free for personal, family and classroom use.
