Pages that are not full end with blank "my new word" cards, handy for names, color words or words from a favorite book. Print on card stock if you can, or glue the sheet onto a cereal box before cutting so the cards last longer.

- Print the cards on card stock, or laminate them, so they survive many rounds.
- Store each list in its own zip bag or on a ring, and add a new word only when the stack is mostly known.
- Flash a card for one or two seconds: sight words are about instant recognition, not sounding out.
- Use the blank cards for your child's name and words from a favorite book.
Did you know?

- The colored corners follow the order of the lists, from red pre-primer to purple third grade.
Fun ways to use your printables

Frequently asked questions
How do you use sight word flash cards?
Hold up a card, let your child read it and sort it into a "know it" or "not yet" pile. Practice the "not yet" pile again later the same day, and keep each session to a few minutes.
How many cards should we use at once?
Ten to fifteen cards is a good stack: mostly words your child knows plus three to five new ones, so every round feels like a win.
What do the colored corners mean?
They show which Dolch list a card belongs to, so a mixed-up pile is easy to sort back. Red is pre-primer, orange primer, green first grade, blue second grade and purple third grade.
What games can we play with the cards?
Hide them around the room for a word hunt, lay them face down for a memory game with two copies, or jump from card to card on the floor and read each one you land on.
