Sight Word Bingo
Updated November 2026 · 14 free printables
Free printable sight word bingo for the two lists young readers learn first: six different 5 by 5 boards for the Dolch pre-primer words and six for the primer words, each with a free star space in the middle, plus a page of calling cards for each list.
Cut the calling cards apart and mix them in a bowl. The caller reads one word at a time, and players look for it on their board and cover it with a coin, a button or a cereal piece. Five in a row across, down or corner to corner wins. With six boards, up to six children can play with no two boards alike.

Tips for parents and teachers
- For beginners, show the calling card as you read it so players can match the letters.
- For a challenge, only say the word and let players find it by reading.
- Ask the winner to read their five words back before the win counts.
- Use small snacks as markers and let everyone eat their markers after the game.
Did you know?
- Each board shows 24 of the list's words around a free space, so every word appears on several boards.
- There are six different boards per list, so six players can play with no two boards the same.
- A bingo game can be won across, down or on either diagonal of the 5 by 5 board.
Fun ways to use your printables
- Play blackout bingo on rainy days: the first board fully covered wins.
- Let your child be the caller; reading the cards aloud is great practice too.
- Laminate the boards and use dry-erase markers to play again and again.

Frequently asked questions
How do you play sight word bingo?
Give each player a board and some markers. The caller draws a calling card and reads it aloud (or shows it, for a reading challenge). Players cover the word if it is on their board. The first to get five in a row calls "Bingo!" and reads the five words back.
What if we have more than six players?
Print a second copy of the boards and let children play in pairs, or play "blackout" where everyone has to cover the whole board, which makes duplicate boards fine.
Can a child play bingo alone?
Yes: read the calling cards one by one and cover the words on one board, counting how many cards it takes to get a bingo. Next time, try to beat that number.
Why play bingo instead of using flash cards?
Bingo makes children scan a whole board for each word, which trains the quick recognition that reading needs, and the game keeps them going far longer than a stack of cards would.
