About this worksheet
Five Halloween riddles: a cauldron, a broom, candy corn, the full moon and a jack-o'-lantern. A free printable 2nd grade "What am I?" riddle worksheet in color: kids read 5 riddles and draw a line to the matching picture (one picture is extra). Answer key on page 2. It fits second grade readers, around ages 7 to 8. Color the sky dark blue for a night scene.
Tips for using it
- Orange, purple, black and lime green make a classic Halloween palette.
- Read the riddle twice: the first time for fun, the second time to look for the trick word.
- Ask "what else could that word mean?" when a riddle seems impossible.
- Let your child be the riddle master and read riddles to you; reading aloud to an audience builds fluency.
Printing tips
Download the PDF and print at 100% (or “fit to page” on A4). Page 1 is the worksheet and page 2 is the answer key with the answers in red; print just page 1 if you want to keep the answers for checking. The PNG shows page 1 only. Free for personal, family and classroom use.
