About this worksheet
Five winter riddles: a snowflake, a mitten, a sled, an igloo and a penguin. A free printable 1st grade "What am I?" riddle worksheet in color: kids read 5 riddles and circle the picture that answers each one. Answer key on page 2. First graders can read it on their own and ask for help only with the trickier words.
Tips for using it
- Read the riddle twice: the first time for fun, the second time to look for the trick word.
- Ask "what else could that word mean?" when a riddle seems impossible.
- Let your child be the riddle master and read riddles to you; reading aloud to an audience builds fluency.
Printing tips
Download the PDF and print at 100% (or “fit to page” on A4). Page 1 is the worksheet and page 2 is the answer key with the answers in red; print just page 1 if you want to keep the answers for checking. The PNG shows page 1 only. Free for personal, family and classroom use.
