Riddles for Kindergarten
Updated November 2026 · 9 free printables
Easy riddles for kindergarten and preschool kids with answers: the sun, a sock, a clock, grass, milk and other things little children see every day. Each one is only one or two short sentences, so it works as a read-aloud game long before a child can read.
The kindergarten printables have four riddles per page in big print, written with short words and sight words, and three colored pictures next to each riddle to circle. There are animal, farm, fruit and vegetable, Thanksgiving, Christmas, Halloween and winter pages, plus animal and food riddle cards.

Frequently asked questions
Can kindergarteners solve riddles?
Yes, if the riddle is short and about something they know. Picture choices help a lot: kids listen or read, then point to the answer.
How should I read a riddle to a 4 or 5 year old?
Read it slowly, pause after each clue and let them guess after every clue. Celebrate good guesses even when they are not the answer.
Can my child read these pages alone?
Many kindergarteners can read the worksheets with a little help. The sentences use short words like hop, big and red and common sight words like I, am and the.
