About this worksheet
8 "What number am I?" riddles for 2nd grade: two-digit numbers, digit sums, place value, skip counting and even and odd. Every riddle has exactly one answer. Answer key on page 2. It fits second grade readers, around ages 7 to 8. Say the number in tens and ones: 47 is 4 tens and 7 ones.
Tips for using it
- Count rods by tens first, then add the ones.
- Read the riddle twice: the first time for fun, the second time to look for the trick word.
- Ask "what else could that word mean?" when a riddle seems impossible.
- Let your child be the riddle master and read riddles to you; reading aloud to an audience builds fluency.
Printing tips
Download the PDF and print at 100% (or “fit to page” on A4). Page 1 is the worksheet and page 2 is the answer key with the answers in red; print just page 1 if you want to keep the answers for checking. The PNG shows page 1 only. Free for personal, family and classroom use.
