Missing Numbers on the Christmas Lights
Six strings of Christmas lights with eight bulbs each. Every string counts in its own pattern (by 1s from 1 and from 12, by 2s, by 5s, by 10s and backwards from 20) and three bulbs on each string are empty. The label says the pattern, so first graders practice skip counting and counting on and back. The key writes the missing numbers in red.

Tips for using it
- Check whether the numbers go up or down before you start.
- Test your rule on two pairs of numbers before filling in the rest.
- Find the step between two numbers first, then keep going.
- Make a three-page packet per child: one word search, one maze and one math or reading page at their level. It fills a quiet 20 minutes.
