A closer look at the pages that belong to this collection itself. The other pages in the gallery above are described on their own theme pages, linked from each card.
-
1. Christmas Eve Picture Word Search
Seven Christmas Eve words hide across and down in an 8 by 8 grid: STOCKING, COOKIE, WREATH, LIGHTS, ORNAMENT, MUG and BOW. Every word in the bank has its own colored picture, so a kindergartner who is still learning letters can match the shapes one by one. Page 2 marks each word in color. Big pictures and only a few tasks per page make it a gentle start for kindergartners. Add white for snow.
-
2. Cozy Winter Night Picture Word Search
Six short winter words with pictures for preschool: OWL, FOX, BEAR, SCARF, MUG and SOCK in an 8 by 8 grid, going only across or down. Children name the picture, find its first letter in the grid and follow the word from there. The answer key is on page 2. Little ones can do most of it with crayons, and a grown-up can read the short questions aloud. Red, green and gold make a classic Christmas palette.
-
3. Easy Christmas Word Search
Eight easy Christmas words in a 10 by 10 grid, across and down only: JOY, ELF, TOY, BOW, CARD, CANDY, COOKIE and SANTA. The words are three to six letters long, big enough for kindergarten and first grade fingers to trace. Answers are marked on page 2. It suits ages 4 to 6, and little ones can count the pictures with a finger. Red, green and gold make a classic Christmas palette.
-
4. Christmas Traditions Word Search
Twelve words about how families spend December hide across, down and diagonally in a 12 by 12 grid: ADVENT, CAROLS, COCOA, PAJAMAS, BAKING, GARLAND, MISTLETOE and more. A good puzzle to talk about your own traditions while you search. Key on page 2. It matches first grade goals, roughly ages 6 to 7. Add white for snow.
-
5. Christmas Dinner Word Search
A Christmas dinner table in a 12 by 12 word search: TURKEY, HAM, GRAVY, PIE, ROLLS, EGGNOG, FUDGE, CIDER, PUDDING, COOKIES, CANDY and COCOA, hidden across, down and diagonally. Twelve words for first and second graders, with the solution on page 2. First graders can do it on their own once they know the strategy at the top of the page. Red, green and gold make a classic Christmas palette.
-
6. Christmas Challenge Word Search
Sixteen longer Christmas words in a 15 by 15 grid, running in all eight directions, backwards too: GINGERBREAD, NUTCRACKER, POINSETTIA, PEPPERMINT, MISTLETOE, FIREPLACE, EVERGREEN, BLIZZARD and more. Made for third to fifth graders who find the usual holiday puzzles too quick. Page 2 shows every word. It is aimed at third grade, around ages 8 to 9. Add white for snow.
-
7. Christmas Around the World Word Search
Sixteen Christmas words from eight countries hide in a 15 by 15 grid in all eight directions: NOEL from France, NAVIDAD from Spain, JUL and LUCIA from Sweden, POSADAS and TAMALES from Mexico, PAROL lanterns from the Philippines, SINTERKLAAS from the Netherlands and more. The word bank names the country next to each word, so it doubles as a mini geography lesson. Key on page 2. Third graders can use it for practice, review or a quick check before a test. Red, green and gold make a classic Christmas palette.
These are the first 60 of 80 pages. Every page is listed on its theme page: Christmas Math Worksheets (Kindergarten to 3rd Grade), Printable Christmas Mazes, Christmas Reading Worksheets for Kindergarten and 1st Grade.
Tips for coloring Free Printable Christmas Worksheets for Kids
- Make a three-page packet per child: one word search, one maze and one math or reading page at their level. It fills a quiet 20 minutes.
- Print the answer keys once and keep them in a folder; the kids can check their own word searches and mazes.
- For a mixed-age family, give everyone the same theme at a different level: the picture word search for the 5-year-old, the Christmas Challenge word search for the 9-year-old.
- Laminate a maze or a word search and use a dry-erase marker so it can be done again on the next snow day.
Fun facts about Free Printable Christmas Worksheets for Kids
- The sheets use only generic Christmas pictures (elves, reindeer, snowmen, gifts, ornaments), so they fit any classroom.
- The Christmas Around the World word search hides holiday words from France, Spain, Italy, Sweden, the Netherlands, Mexico, the Philippines and England.
- The hardest maze has 20 by 22 cells, the tiny elf maze only 4 by 4: 440 cells against 16.
Fun ways to use your printables
- Tuck one sheet a day into an Advent calendar pocket: 24 school-day activities until the break.
- After the Christmas Dinner word search, plan your own holiday menu with the words from the list.
- Turn the tally and graph page into a class survey: count the ornaments on the real classroom tree by color.

Frequently asked questions
What grades are the Christmas worksheets for?
Preschool and kindergarten (picture word searches, the tiny and small mazes, sound boxes, counting ornaments, picture addition and subtraction), first grade (facts to 20, missing numbers on the lights, tally and graph, fill-in sentences, syllables), second grade (gift tag addition, word problems, telling time) and third grade (arrays, times table cookies, division word problems, the hard word searches). Every page shows its level, and the filter at the top of the gallery sorts them by grade.
Do the worksheets have answer keys?
Yes, on page 2 of each PDF. Word searches mark every word with a colored band, mazes show the only path in red, and the math and reading sheets have the answers written in red. The tracing page is the one sheet without a key, because there is nothing to mark.
What paper and printer settings should I use?
The PDFs are US Letter (8.5 by 11 inches) and also fit A4 with "fit to page". Everything prints fine in black and white; the pictures are in color, so a color printer makes the picture word searches and the math sheets nicer for young kids, but it is not needed.
Can I use these in my classroom or for a Christmas party?
Yes. Print a class set of any sheet, or make a small packet: a word search, a maze and one math page per child is a quiet 20-minute activity for the last days before the break or for early finishers. The riddle cards and the Christmas Around the World word search also work as a whole-class activity.
Are there Christmas worksheets for kindergarten specifically?
Ten of the new sheets are at kindergarten level: two picture word searches, the easy word search and the sight word search, three mazes, winter sound boxes, sentence tracing, write the Christmas word, rhyming pairs, counting ornaments, picture addition and picture subtraction. Add the easy Christmas color by number pages and the easy hidden pictures from the same gallery.
Are the Christmas worksheets free?
Yes. Every sheet is a free PDF for home, homeschool and classroom use. Print as many copies as your class or family needs; the only thing we ask is not to resell them or upload them to another site.
