About this worksheet
A boy in a striped sweater is looking for the family Christmas tree. The 16 by 17 maze has long corridors and plenty of dead ends, a real medium challenge for ages 7 to 9. The solution is on page 2. Medium puzzles need a little planning, but no guessing. Red, green and gold make a classic Christmas palette.
This maze by the numbers
On this 16 x 17 grid the only correct path runs through 116 of the 272 squares (about 43%) and turns 72 times between START and FINISH. It has 28 dead ends where a wrong turn stops, and most kids at this level finish it in about 8 minutes. Bonus challenge: after you reach FINISH, color the 116 squares of the right path in one color, then hunt down all 28 dead ends and mark each one with an X. If you count fewer than 28, keep looking!
Tips for using it
- Trace the correct path with a highlighter once you solve it.
- Color the start and finish arrows in green and red.
- Add white for snow.
- Make a three-page packet per child: one word search, one maze and one math or reading page at their level. It fills a quiet 20 minutes.
