About this worksheet
Santa's reindeer overslept: help it find the way through a 12 by 13 maze to the sleigh waiting at the bottom. A medium maze for first and second graders, with the red solution path on page 2. Medium puzzles need a little planning, but no guessing. Red, green and gold make a classic Christmas palette.
This maze by the numbers
On this 12 x 13 grid the only correct path runs through 52 of the 156 squares (about 33%) and turns 32 times between START and FINISH. It has 12 dead ends where a wrong turn stops, and most kids at this level finish it in about 4 minutes. Bonus challenge: after you reach FINISH, color the 52 squares of the right path in one color, then hunt down all 12 dead ends and mark each one with an X. If you count fewer than 12, keep looking!
Tips for using it
- Trace the correct path with a highlighter once you solve it.
- Color the start and finish arrows in green and red.
- Add white for snow.
- Make a three-page packet per child: one word search, one maze and one math or reading page at their level. It fills a quiet 20 minutes.
