About this worksheet
A first maze for 3 and 4 year olds: only 4 by 4 cells with wide paths, so a crayon can follow the way from the elf at the top to the two wrapped presents at the bottom without getting stuck. The solution on page 2 is drawn in red. It is an easy puzzle page, a great first try for ages 6 to 8. Add white for snow.
This maze by the numbers
On this 4 x 4 grid the only correct path runs through 9 of the 16 squares (about 56%) and turns 4 times between START and FINISH. It has 2 dead ends where a wrong turn stops, and most kids at this level finish it in about 1 minute. Bonus challenge: after you reach FINISH, color the 9 squares of the right path in one color, then hunt down all 2 dead ends and mark each one with an X. If you count fewer than 2, keep looking!
Tips for using it
- Trace the correct path with a highlighter once you solve it.
- Color the start and finish arrows in green and red.
- Red, green and gold make a classic Christmas palette.
- Make a three-page packet per child: one word search, one maze and one math or reading page at their level. It fills a quiet 20 minutes.
Printing tips
Download the PDF and print at 100% (or “fit to page” on A4). Page 1 is the worksheet and page 2 is the answer key with the answers in red; print just page 1 if you want to keep the answers for checking. Free for personal, family and classroom use.
