About this worksheet
Twelve Christmas words to clap into syllables: one-clap words like tree, bell and star, two claps for snowman, stocking, mitten, penguin, present and cookie, and three for ornament, candy cane and gingerbread. Each card has a colored picture, the word in manuscript letters and the numbers 1, 2, 3 to circle. The key circles the right count in red. First graders can do it on their own once they know the strategy at the top of the page. Red, green and gold make a classic Christmas palette.
Tips for using it
- Add white for snow.
- Make a three-page packet per child: one word search, one maze and one math or reading page at their level. It fills a quiet 20 minutes.
- Print the answer keys once and keep them in a folder; the kids can check their own word searches and mazes.
- For a mixed-age family, give everyone the same theme at a different level: the picture word search for the 5-year-old, the Christmas Challenge word search for the 9-year-old.
Printing tips
Download the PDF and print at 100% (or “fit to page” on A4). Page 1 is the worksheet and page 2 is the answer key with the answers in red; print just page 1 if you want to keep the answers for checking. Free for personal, family and classroom use.
