About this worksheet
This is a measuring hunt rather than a worksheet. The table lists eight things to find at home, a spoon, a book, your shoe, a cup, a pencil, a key, a sock and a mug, with a column for a guess in inches, then the measured length in inches and again in centimeters. Three lines at the bottom ask for the longest thing measured, the shortest, and something longer than 12 inches. There is no answer key, since the answers depend on your objects. A tip at the bottom says an inch is about 2½ centimeters. Second graders need twenty minutes with a real ruler or tape.
Tips for using it
- Use a tape measure for the book and the shoe, which may be longer than a 6-inch ruler.
- Check each row: the centimeter number should be roughly 2½ times the inch number.
- Let your child choose two extra objects and add them below the table.
- Compare the guess column with the inches column and circle the best guess.
Printing tips
Download the PDF and print at 100% (or “fit to page” on A4). It is a vector file, so the lines stay sharp on any printer. This page is free for personal, family and classroom use.
