About this worksheet
A hundreds chart sits at the top with a legend beside it: plus 10 is down one row, minus 10 is up one row, plus 1 is right, minus 1 is left, plus 20 is down two rows and plus 11 is down one and right one. Twelve problems follow, among them 10 more than 52 (62), 10 less than 43 (33), 1 less than 60 (59), 20 more than 66 (86), 11 more than 22 (33), 9 more than 17 (26) and 30 more than 36 (66). Page 2 lists the answers. It is a second-grade page of about twelve minutes that treats the chart as a map rather than a list.
Answer key at a glance
1) 10 more than 52: 62; 2) 10 less than 43: 33; 3) 1 more than 64: 65; 4) 1 less than 60: 59; 5) 20 more than 66: 86; 6) 11 more than 22: 33; 7) 9 more than 17: 26; 8) 20 less than 81: 61. The key has 12 answers in all.
Tips for using it
- Have your child put a finger on the start number and hop, saying the move aloud.
- Ask how 9 more than 17 can be done as down one and left one.
- Try problem 11 (30 more than 36) with three hops down and check with addition.
- Make up two more problems using 50 as the start and solve them together.
