About this worksheet
A hint box at the top shows the four moves around 45: 35 above, 55 below, 44 to the left, 46 to the right. Then eight puzzle pieces of different shapes each give a single number, and the child writes the numbers in the other boxes using those moves. Piece 1 gives 34 and needs 24, 35, 26 and 36; piece 2 gives 44 and needs 45 and 46; piece 4 gives 75 and needs 55, 65 and 76. Page 2 shows every piece filled in. It is a second-grade page of about fifteen minutes, and it is really ten-more and ten-less practice in disguise, done without a chart to copy from.
On this sheet
numbers that belong in the other boxes. Every piece was cut out of a hundreds chart. Up one row is 10 less, down one row is 10 more, left is 1 less and right is 1 more. Use the number you are given to fill in the rest of the piece.
Tips for using it
- Have your child draw small arrows on the hint box, up for minus 10 and down for plus 10, before starting.
- Check each piece by reading its numbers aloud in row order.
- Cover the hint box after piece 4 and see whether the rules are remembered.
- Draw one new piece around the number 67 for your child to fill.
