About this worksheet
Five groups of four to six coins sit down the left side, and five price tags sit down the right in a different order, so the child counts each group and draws a line to its tag. The groups come to 45, 17, 57, 33 and 61 cents: a quarter, a dime and two nickels make 45; three dimes and three pennies make 33; two quarters, two nickels and a penny make 61. Every total is different, so a miscount leaves a tag with no line, which is its own check. Page 2 draws the five correct lines. Second graders need about eight minutes, and the matching format is a good change from writing totals in boxes.
Tips for using it
- Have your child write each total next to its coin group before drawing any lines.
- Use a ruler for the lines so they stay readable.
- If two groups seem to match the same tag, recount both.
- Make a sixth group with real coins and a tag for your child to match.
