About this worksheet
The vocabulary steps up: "I am a prime number: only 1 and I myself divide me evenly. I am between 20 and 30. My digits add up to 5" and "I am a factor of 36. I am a factor of 24. I am greater than 6." One riddle leads to a four-digit number with all digits the same, and another to a three-digit odd multiple of 25. Each riddle defines prime in the clue itself, so no prior lesson is required. Fourth graders take about fifteen minutes. Listing factors or multiples on scrap paper before reading the next clue is the method that works. Answers go in the box, key on page 2.
Tips for using it
- List the factors or multiples a clue names before you read the next clue.
- Say the definition of a prime number in your own words after riddle 1.
- Find the two riddles that share the word square and compare their answers.
- Write a riddle whose answer is a prime number between 40 and 50.
