About this worksheet
The twelve-shape bank at the top is the same as the first grade page, but the riddles ask for different shapes and give richer clues: "I have no corners, but I am not perfectly round: I am longer one way than the other. An egg and a running track have my shape" and "I have 5 corners (vertices). My bottom is a square and my sides are triangles." Four riddles are flat shapes and two are solids. Children write each name on the line. Second graders need about ten minutes. The checkerboard clue (64 of me) and the snowflake clue (as many points as I have corners) reward careful reading.
Tips for using it
- Count the corners on each shape in the bank before reading the riddles.
- Find the riddle with the number 64 and explain where it comes from.
- Build the pyramid from riddle 6 out of paper and count its corners.
- Write a riddle for the cylinder, which is in the bank but has no riddle.
