About this worksheet
The clues mix how an animal looks with what it does: "I am a black and white bird. I cannot fly, but I am a great swimmer" is one, and another animal has no legs and slides on its tummy with a hiss. Two of the four answers are black and white, which forces a child to read the second sentence instead of grabbing the first striped picture. Three pictures sit beside each riddle for circling. Kindergartners need about six minutes. A good extension is to act out each answer: waddle like one, slither like another, sleep all winter like the last.
Tips for using it
- Act out each answer after you circle it: waddle, slither, stomp, snore.
- Notice which two riddles mention black and white, and read on to tell them apart.
- Say one more fact you know about each animal.
- Draw a zoo map and put the four answers in their cages.
