About this worksheet
The chart goes past 100 to 120, which first graders are expected to count to, and 40 of the 120 boxes are blank. Each row has its own soft background color, so the eye can follow a row across without slipping. The gaps are spread evenly, three or four per row, and the last two rows hide 100, 103, 109, 112, 114, 117 and 119, where a child has to keep the hundreds digit going. Page 2 shows the completed 120 chart. It is a first-grade page of fifteen minutes. Reading the last two rows aloud afterward, one hundred one, one hundred two, is worth the extra minute.
Tips for using it
- Have your child count aloud from 95 to 120 before writing the last three rows.
- Use the row colors: finish one color band completely before starting the next.
- Ask what number comes after 120 and where it would go.
- Circle 100 and 110 and 120 as the three landmarks at the bottom.
